Schwarzenegger is proposing once again to eliminate and consolidate more than a dozenstated departments, boards and commissions. This includes the Wastw Management Board, the Court Reporters the Department of Boating and Waterways and the Inspectionn and MaintenanceReview Committee. Earlier this the state began consolidating informationtechnologg departments. Now Schwarzenegger wants to consolidate departmentz that oversee financial institutions and merge taxcollectionh operations. In July, statw leaders will receive recommendations on how to modernizs thetax code.
“This will be a tremendouxs opportunity to make our revenues more reliabled and less volatile and help the statde avoid the boom and bust budgets that have brought ushere today,” Schwarzenegger told lawmakers. It’s not goinvg to happen in 14 days, he said. But it could happenb before the Legislature adjourns for summer recesse onJuly 17.
