House passes historic climate bill - Phoenix Business Journal:

Congressmen David Wu, Kurt Schrader and Earl Blumenauerr voted forthe bill, knowh as the American Clean Energh and Security Act. It is the first bill in U.S. historyu to cap carbon pollution. It also encourages developmenr of clean energy and requires utilities to get 20 percent of thei power from renewable sourcesby 2020. Forty-four Democrats voteed against the bill, including Eugene Democra t Peter DeFazio. Republican Greg Walden, who representa eastern Oregon, also opposed the bill. It passed by a seven-votw margin, 219-212. “Some voteas just feel different, and today’s was truly historic,” Blumenauert said in a statement.
“For the first time, Congress has taken actionb to rein in global warming pollutionn andjumpstart America’s clean energu industries.” The bill is expected to face a contentious debats in the Senate.
